For returning undergraduate students, those taking a gap year, all local postgraduate applicants, and both undergraduate and postgraduate international applicants, please ensure you upload the following documents (if applicable):

  • Certified copy of your ID/passport.
  • Certified copy of your National Senior/Matric Certificate or O/A Levels or relevant school leaving qualification/certificate.
  • Proof from Universities South Africa (previously known as HESA), that you qualify for admission to degree studies at South African universities, if you are an international applicant. For more information, refer to the undergraduate prospectus.
  • An applicant who has studied at any other tertiary institution must, in addition, present certified copies of degree certificates, full academic records, proof of financial clearance and a certificate of conduct from that institution.
  • Proof of English proficiency for International applicants from non-English speaking countries.
  • South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluations if the previous qualification(s) was/were obtained at foreign universities (outside South Africa).
  • A research proposal/proposed title of the dissertation/thesis if you are applying for a Masters Degree or PhD.
  • Before applying online please make sure that you have read the guidelines above.
  • Please ensure that you have the USAF/SAQA documents to be uploaded to complete your application.
  • Please ensure to use the reference APPN (followed by your student number) when making application fee payments.
  • Please allow the system 24 hrs to 48 hrs to clear your payment.

What Is The Minimum Requirements To Study Degree At UKZN

You will need the following:

  • Must obtain at least 40% for Home Language
  • Must obtain at least 50% for FOUR other subjects excluding Life Orientation
  • Must obtain at least 30% for ONE other subject
  • Must obtain at least 30% in Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) of the Higher Education Institution where you intend to study
  • Must pass at least 6 out of 7 subjects
