Study Options Available At George Whitefield College
The following are the study options available at GWC you can choose from to study:
Higher Certificate In Theology (On Campus Only):
GWC’s Higher Certificate in Theology is registered under the South African Qualifications Authority ID 98789, NQF Level 5. This one-year full-time (or three-year part-time) programme at NQF level 5 will provide you with basic theological and pastoral training to assist you in serving more effectively in various church ministries.
Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification, with a minimum of 30% in English Language (as per Government Gazette No. 751, 11 July 2008). Admission via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is allowed for up to 10% of the total enrolment each year. Students in this category may be permitted to complete the qualification over a maximum of two years, subject to the Faculty Board’s approval.
Foreign students for whom English is a second language may need to take a TOEFL test (or similar assessment) to demonstrate English proficiency at a level appropriate for academic study (see further details at the bottom of this page).

English Language Requirement:
To be accepted onto a course at the University, you must have an English language qualification.
- The minimum acceptable requirement for undergraduate courses is an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.0 in the writing component.
- This is equivalent to a score of 213 in the computer-based TOEFL, 550 in the paper-based TOEFL, or 79–80 in the internet-based TOEFL.
BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY (BTH):
GWC’s Bachelor of Theology is registered under the South African Qualifications Authority ID 61870, NQF Level 5-7. This 3-year, full-time program at NQF levels 5 – 7 is designed to provide you with the education and training necessary for professional ministry, teaching the Word of God, and leadership within a Christian church, community, or organization.
The qualification offers the opportunity to combine knowledge of the Christian faith with essential skills for ministering to and leading Christian communities, while also contributing to the development and transformation of society at large.
