The online application portal for The University of Fort Hare is currently open for the 2026 academic year with two different methods by which applicants can apply. To be eligible for admission to undergraduate study, applicants need to meet the minimum requirements for eligibility by holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC), passing a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.

Online applications fee is R120, while manual applications cost R120 for South African students and R500 for international students. To ensure your application is processed successfully, applicants must submit all necessary supporting documents and attachments. Incomplete applications will not be considered valid. Required attachments usually include certified copies of your ID, qualifications, and proof of payment.

Application for admission into the 2026 academic year at the University of Fort Hare will be closed by the 31st of October. University Of Fort Hare Online Application Entry Requirements For 2026

To be eligible for admission to degree study, applicants need to meet minimum requirements for eligibility:

Undergraduate Students:

• Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) need to pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
• Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
• Declaration by Parent/Guardian for Minor Applicants must accompany all applications by prospective students under the age of 18.

Postgraduate Students:

• The admission requirements for postgraduate study vary from one programme to another. You are advised to download the Postgraduate Study Guide to find out what is required for the course or degree that you want to take.

The closing date for Honours, Masters & PhD students is Friday, 29 November 2024, no late applications will be accepted.

International Students:

• Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information regarding the evaluation of qualifications please visit the website of the Matriculation Board www.hesa.org.za. Declaration by Parent/Guardian for Minor Applicants must accompany all applications by learners under the age of 18.
• All applicants with non-South African qualifications are required to have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). For more information regarding evaluation of qualifications please visit the SAQA website www.saqa.org.za.It is the responsibility of the prospective student to forward his/her documentation to SAQA.
