• Applicants are to note that the online application deadline for Walter Sisulu University academic year 2026 is on the 31st of October. Applicants are to note that, applications that wil be submitted after the given deadline will not be accepted.

WSU Online Application Requirements For 2026-2027

The following are the required documents needed to apply for admission into the Water Sisulu University:

• Certified copy of your ID document
• Certified copy of your Senior Certificate/ National Senior Certificate or equivalent
• Certified copy of Grade 11 report ( If you are currently in grade 12)

Students interested in studying at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) 2026 must meet the minimum admission requirements set by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for the qualifications listed below:

Higher Certificate:

• The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching used by the higher education institution, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council.
• Depending on the institution and program requirements, additional combinations of recognized NSC subjects and specific levels of achievement may be necessary.

Diploma:

• The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, along with an achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or higher in four recognized 20-credit subjects, excluding Life Orientation, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council.
• Additional subject combinations or specific levels of achievement may be required based on institutional and program needs.

Bachelor’s Degree:

• The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution and an achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) or higher in four recognized 20-credit subjects, excluding Life Orientation, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council.
• Additional subject combinations or specific achievement levels may be required based on the institution and program criteria.

Students with international school leaving results:

• Applications from students with international school-leaving qualifications are assessed according to the Higher Education South Africa (HESA) Guideline Document, A Guide to Application for Exemption Certificates.
• If necessary, international qualifications must be submitted to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for benchmarking in line with HEQC standards.
• Walter Sisulu University’s International Office will provide support and assistance to these students throughout the process.

Mature age endorsements:

• Admission in terms of Mature Age Endorsement will be in terms of Rule 1.13 in the General Prospectus.
